Food Dehydrator Reviews

When it comes to buying a food dehydrator, there are many options. Here are some food dehydrator reviews that you will find useful. We’ve reviewed some of the most popular food dehydrators so you can have a well-rounded idea of what’s available.

Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator

This Nesco model is very popular and highly rated on a variety of shopping sites. This unit has 700 watts of power, and has 5 trays for food dehydration. Because of its high wattage, food dehydrates in hours instead of days – which is great. This particular model has a top-mounted fan (as opposed to side or rear mounted), and comes with an adjustable thermostat with a range of 95 to 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

The FD-75PR prevents flavors from mixing, which is wonderful, and there’s no need to rotate the trays as it dries evenly automatically. Its opaque exterior prevents harmful light from being let in and damaging your foods.

Nesco’s dehydrator comes with a recipe book along with two solid sheets, two mesh sheets and three jerky spice mixture packets. It measures about thirteen by thirteen by ten inches.

Excalibur 2900 Economy Series 9 Tray Food Dehydrator

Excalibur has been in the food dehydrator business for more than 20 years, so they know their stuff. This particular model is a little noisy, but after hearing about some of its features you probably wont care about that (and besides, it doesn’t make any more noise than a dishwasher or bathroom vent).

The 2900 is an absolutely wonderful dehydrator. It’s easy to use, and the fan and heating element are located on the back of the united instead of on the top like many other dehydrators. This prevents any drippings from the food being dehydrated from getting into the machines inner workings and causing issues with durability.

This model has 9 trays, which means you can get a lot of food dehydrated at once while using minimal counter space. There are 4 and 5 tray models available, but we recommend the 9 tray as it’s not much more expensive but can get a lot more dehydrating done.

The Excalibur is easy to clean, too, since its shelves are removable. We give it the highest rating, and encourage anyone looking for a quality dehydrator to seriously consider the Excalibur 2900.

Ronco FD1005WHGEN 5-Tray Electric Food Dehydrator

The Ronco 5-tray is a 125-watt food dehydrator with 5 interchangeable trays. It uses electrical heating coils to create a convection air flow designed to evenly dehydrate the food. Now, the Ronco is less expensive than the other food dehydrators reviewed on this page, and as such it doesn’t dry the food as fast or have as many options as the others. This unit has an internal operating temperature of up to 133 degrees F, and it’s pretty quiet. It also comes with some recipes and is small enough to fit on your counter top. The 10-year limited warranty is a plus, too.
